Videos for Internal Medicine Clerkship

Prior to your first session at ASTEC you should watch the following three videos available on the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) website. By doing so, you will have more time for hands on practice and we will be able to cover the material in greater depth.

Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation

Positive-Pressure Ventilation with a Face Mask and Bag-Valve Device

Orotracheal Intubation

Alternative Access:  Access to the videos is available only to NEJM subscribers.  This means that you will have to access the site through the library’s subscription (unless you just happen to have your own personal subscription).  Once you have accessed the NEJM home page through the UMC library you will see “See All Features” listed on the left side of the screen under the “ABOUT NEJM” menu.  Click on “See All Features.”  On the next page select the “Teaching and Learning” tab and click on “Videos in Clinical Medicine” on the submenu.  On the “Videos in Clinical Medicine” page click on View All Videos in Clinical Medicine” in the middle of the page.  This will take you to an illustrated table of contents page that allows you to select the video you wish to watch (click on the “Streaming Video” icon under the desired video).  Each video is about 10-15 minutes in length.  Feel free to watch any video you like, but please watch the above three as preparation for your first ASTEC session.

Note: If you try this without going through the UMC computer / library system you will simply get a page that tells you that access to the video requires a subscription.
