Current Research Projects-Laparoscopic training

Laparoscopic Skills: Who should be trained?
Mohamad W. Salkini, MD; Alyson Knapp; and Allan J. Hamilton, MD

Simulators are of proven value in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) training, as the acquired skills are transferable into the clinical laparoscopic surgery.

MIS is well known to have long and variable learning curves. If successive generations of surgeons were able to cut down on training time, and learning curves could plateau earlier with each generation of surgeons, then how early in the medical education can we integrate laparoscopic skills?
